Dimapur, April 3 (EMN): Phom Union Kohima (PUK) celebrated Monyu festival on April 1 at the residence of Parliamentary Secretary of Land Resources Development, BS Nganlang Phom.
Speaking at the programme, Nganlang exhorted the gathering to conserve and promote the rich cultural heritage saying that the main feature of the Monyu is to show love and renew affection towards their married daughters or sisters by presenting especially prepared food to them.
Significance of monyu was delivered by Vankon Phom, wherein he said that Monyu festival is celebrated in the month of April every year soon after the sowing season beginning from April 1 to 6. He also stated that each day has significance: first day is Shungten Laiphen, second day Aeihaokshok, third day Chingiokshok, fourth day Yenthu, fifth day Chingthum and sixth day Yean yan.
The highlights of the programme included invocation by Rev. Phomlee Van, pastor, and the welcome address and Monyu greetings by PUK president Dr. Longai. Monyu festival was marked by traditional dance by the Pongching cultural troupe Kohima. The programme concluded with Monyu feast sponsored by BS Nganlang and family.
