Phom students seal medical superintendent’s office in Longleng
DIMAPUR — The Phom Students’ Conference has sealed the Medical Superintendent’s office at District Hospital Longleng, citing the official’s failure to report for duty since October 2023.
In a press release, the student body stated that the official notification of transfer and posting of medical doctors under the department of Health and Family Welfare was issued on Oct. 11, 2023, but the new medical superintendent is yet to take charge.
Stating that the economically poor section of the population is dependent on the government healthcare facility, as it serves as the secondary referral hospital for all the villages under Longleng district, the PSC urged the competent authority to take cognisance of the matter on or before March 4.
The District Hospital is facing immense hardship due to shortage of manpower, and the people of the district are forced to seek medical care outside the district, the PSC said, adding that the medical superintendent’s office will remain sealed until the matter is addressed urgently.
“The Phom Students’ Conference will take its own course of action to the extent of sealing the Chief Medical Officer’s office in Longleng, and the department shall be solely responsible and accountable for any loss of lives until the grievances are addressed,” the press release stated.
