Y Among speaking at the Phom Day programme held at Phom Baptist Attoi in Mokokchung town on Tuesday.

MOKOKCHUNG — Phom community in Mokokching district observed the 71st Phom Day during a programme held at Phom Baptist Attoi in Mokokchung town on Tuesday.

Phom Naga community observes the day, when of June 6, 1952, the elders of the Phom tribe made a pledge to stop the practice of head hunting.

Speaking on the occasion, Y Among, president of Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Mokokchung (ENPUM) and the special guest, stated that the Phom community is thriving economically and socially because of sharing a long border with the Ao community and the Assam state.

He urged the community to be more humble and retrospect the past where their elders had pursued the path of peace during the era of head hunting and to transform the Phom community towards a vibrant society.
