DIMAPUR — Philately Day was observed on Thursday at Government Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Lewoza, under the Nagaland division.
Philately is the study of postage stamps and postal history.
According to a press release, Rajani Jha, SDIPO Kohima, shared an introduction to philately and the significance of National Postal Week, and marketing executive Sharon Losu discussed the importance of handwritten letters in the digital era.
On the occasion, a ‘Dhai Akhar’ letter writing competition was also held, with six schools participating and 597 participants in both the envelope and inland letter card categories. Two school philatelic clubs with 40 students each were also established.
Khroko Koza of Chakhesang Mission Higher Secondary School Pfutsero won the district-level letter-writing competition and received INR 5000.
Verolii Ruho of Nazareth School, Pfutsero, and Neipe-u Mero of Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Pfutsero, finished second and third, receiving INR 3,000 and INR 2,000, respectively.
Vithu-u Lasuh of Nazareth School, Kuzo of Chakhesang Mission Higher Secondary School, Ngotsotolu of Baptist School, Joyey Seb of Baptist School, and Mutulu Kezo of Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Pfutsero, were the five consolation winners.
