Dimapur, Oct. 5 (EMN): Kalpaka Lakshimi Charitable Trust (KLCT), a Chennai-based non-governmental organisation, donated a pick-up truck to a women’s group in Khonoma village during a programme held on October 4.

An update from the women’s group informed that the funds for the truck was initiated by Neelam Dutta, managing director of Pabhoi Greens Pvt. Limited- a farmhouse in Assam which he developed into a diary, nursery and bio-research over the years.

It stated that the group known as ‘Khonoma Women’s Organic Co-Operative Society (KWOCS) comprised 12 members. It was set up to encourage farming and promote an agri-sustainable lifestyle initiated by Dutta himself.

Speaking at the event, Dutta, who has a long association with the village, expressed hope that the truck would prove to be a source of help in meeting the needs of the farmers in the transportation of their goods. Dutta, who is a recipient of many prestigious awards such as the Haladhar Organic Farmers Award (2014), National Farmers Award (Harit Award), and Ambassadors Grant (2016-17) from ETH University, Zurich, shared his hope that the younger folk would take up farming more seriously since the region has so much untapped potential and huge market.

KLCT website stated that it began in 2015 with the main objectives of helping needy students, improving the environment, reviving dying arts and crafts among others.
