The 25th year celebration of Phek Town Inter Colony Tournament made a colouful start here today under the theme ‘Sporting for peace’ with minister for PWD (Roads & Bridges) and parliamentary affairs Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that Phek town is 41 years old now which is still very young as compared to other towns of the state.
Stating that Phek town will be celebrating golden jubilee by 2013, the minister stressed on the need anticipate the growth of the town be it human resources development, education, spiritual and games and sports so that the town would emerge a wholesome shape and congenial place to live in. He also called upon the people to continue to extend their cooperation to the government for all round development of the town.Azo said he desire to make Phek as one of the best towns in Nagaland as well as in the North East. He said this can be possible through a parading shift in behavioral, attitude and hospitality. Also informing that National Highway will now be touching Phek district HQ which has already been declared by Government of India, the minister called upon the concerned village councils to give their cooperation in the process of the survey.
Stating that sport is a test of one’s skill, stamina, idea, strength, coordination and leadership, he said that such quality will take the sports persons forward.
Earlier, Zhetoi Lohe pronounced an act of blessing of the monolith. Phek Town Youth Society president Neihite Akami delivered welcome address. Shezo Khamo, Sekredzumi Cultural Preservation Society and Momentum Crew made special presentation. Several dignitaries including Phek Deputy Commissioner Murohu Chotso also present at the inaugural function.
The tournament, featuring football and volleyball involving 11 colonies, will go on till October 31. Parliamentary secretary for irrigation & flood control & election Y. Vikheho Swu will grace the closing ceremony as the guest of honour.
