Dimapur, Nov. 10: The Phek Town Chakhesang Students’ Union (PTCSU) on Saturday declared their town litter-free. Also, Royal Foundation School was declared as the town’s first litter-free school.
The declaration was made during the 7th phase sanitation drive-cum-declaration of litter-free zone, organised by PTCSU and Forest department at clock tower in Phek town.
The additional deputy commissioner of Phek, Avelu Ruho, who attended the event as a guest speaker congratulated the PTCSU for keeping the town clean and green. Admitting that cleanliness is the responsibility of every citizen, she urged the gathering to inculcate the habit of maintaining “physical freedom from pollutants.”
Ruho urged the PTCSU to participate at the tree plantation drive next year, in which she projected to plant two thousand cherry saplings. Ruho also declared Royal Foundation School as the first litter-free school in Phek town and honoured the school with a certificate of appreciation.
Meanwhile, the headmaster of Royal Foundation School, in his address stressed on cleanliness in line with the Swatch Bharat Mission and expressed gratitude to PTCSU for their untiring involvement in keeping the town clean.
The press secretary of Phek Town Youth Society, Kedupa Venuh told
Eastern Mirror that the PTCSU and Forest department donated a litterbin to the Royal Foundation School.
Venuh further stated that around 850 students from Christian Mission Higher Secondary School and Royal Foundation School conducted a cleanliness drive after the programme, starting from clock tower to DC office junction in Phek town.
