Phek students get a first look at gardening as vocational class

Dimapur, March 12 (EMN): How seeds are sown was the thematic activity on March 12 for students of a school at Pfutsero in Phek district. A press release on Tuesday informed that the government higher secondary school of Pfutsero was introducing ‘composite organic kitchen gardening’ as a vocational programme for class 6 to class 8 students.
According to the source of the information, the class is part of the school’s ‘initiative to impart life skill education to students during the current academic year.’
“Observing seeds sowing day on March 12 at the school compound, Pfutsero GHSS principal Vechikhoyi Lohe reminded the students on the importance of work culture and to learn as much life skill as possible,” the press release explained.
The school’s grade-IV staff made the necessary preparations of the ‘composite kitchen garden’ and ‘taught’ the students on the techniques of sowing seeds, it stated.
“The school is making effort to re-introduce carpentry and knitting classes for elementary students of the school. Further, through the RMSA (secondary education scheme Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan) support, music lesson are being introduced in the school as vocational learning,” the updates added.
