Dimapur, March 31 (EMN): Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) team under the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Phek, visited 20 schools and 21 Anganwadi centres during the month of March 2019 as part of their monthly screening for the age group of 0-18 years.
RBSK is a mobile health team under National Health Mission, which aims to promote child health screening and early intervention services.

A CMO press release stated that a total of 884 students were screened in schools for the 4Ds – Defects at birth, Deficiencies, Diseases, and Development delays during the visit. It added that 157 students were found positive with dental caries, 42 with substance abuse (tobacco), eight with vision impairment, two with hearing impairment, one with cognitive delay, and nine with adolescent health concerns.

It stated that a total of 61 students were referred to CHCs, while 14 students to Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic (AFHC), and three students to District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC).

At Anganwadi centres, total of 700 children were screened out of which two were detected with skin diseases and one with heart disease.

Apart from screening, health talks on tobacco and its effects, personal hygiene, awareness on oral health and its maintenance were imparted to school children.
