Phek public deliberates on Kohima-Jessami road project

Neiba Kronu addresses the public during a coordination meeting on Kohima-Jessami two lane project on February 23 at Pfutsero.

Kohima, Feb. 23 (EMN): The district administration of Phek on Tuesday conducted a meeting at Pfutsero in regard to the Kohima-Jessami two lane project.

The meeting was attended by the minister of Planning and Co-ordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu, MLA Kezhienyi Khalo, as well as the officials from the district administration, NHIDCL, contractors, Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), Chakhesang Mother’s Association (CMA), Chizami Range Public Organisation (CRPO), village councils and public leaders of the district.

The deputy commissioner of Phek, Razouvolie Dozo, while addressing the meeting, acknowledged the government, Neiba Kronu and NHIDCL for bringing the mega two-lane project in the district. He also requested the village leaders and the concerned citizens to co-operate with the district administration, NHIDCL contractors for the smooth functioning of the mega development activities.

In his speech, Neiba Kronu requested all the stakeholders to give full cooperation for the successful implementation of the project. He stated that Phek district is the most fortunate district with many road projects underway and ‘still many more to come up’.

“The villages through which the present two lane project (Kohima-Jessami) crosses should not be considered as ‘affected village’ but rather it should be considered as ‘benefitted villages’ because with the completion of the project, the public can explore more opportunities,” Kronu stated.

He further advised the land owners to utilise the compensation in a positive way by investing for the good of their future. He also highlighted some upcoming road projects within the district.

Lozaphuhu-Akhwego-Avangkhu, which would link with Myanmar, Lanyephe-Kizari-Meluri, Pfutsero-Zhavame, Pfutsero-Chetheba and Pfutsero-Tadubi is almost completed.

While acknowledging NHIDL for taking up several projects in Nagaland, the minister requested them to respect the authorities of the villages when dealing with the village leaders. The minister informed that the present Kohima-Jessami two lane project is the fastest project in the state.

MLA Kezhienyi Khalo, while sharing his concern on matters relating to the two-lane project, requested both the public and NHIDL to coordinate for an early completion of the project.

NHIDCL general manager, SP Phek, SDO (C) Pfutsero, contractors of different packages, Chakhesang Public Organisation, Chakhesang Mother’s Association, Chizami Range Public Organisation, village councils and public leaders also spoke at the meeting.

The various organisations have assured full co-operation and co-ordination with the district administration, NHIDCL and contractors for the completion of the mega project within the given time frame.

The meeting was chaired by Thungbemo Patton, SDO (Civil), Pfutsero, while an invocation prayer was said by Rev. Khrotso Mero, executive secretary of Chakhesang Baptist Church Council.
