Phek police sensitised on COTPA Act

Dimapur, June 2: Police personnel under the Superintendent of Police, Phek, were sensitized on the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and given awareness on the harmful effects of tobacco on June 1 in the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP), Phek, conducted by National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP), Phek. NTCP Nodal Officer and resource person, Dr. Reyosalu Lase Vizo, sensitized the police personnel on the different sections and penalty under COTPA act, where they could play an important role in the implementation of the act and also take active part in the tobacco enforcement squad in the district.The resource person, through power point presentation, also made aware the participants on the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and poisonous substances contain in tobacco etc. Rukewelo Mero, SP Phek, in his short briefing, exhorted the gatherings that if we have strong determination one do not need any therapy to quit tobacco. Altogether 67 police personnel, SP Phek Rukewelo Mero, SDPO Phek Velule and Additional SP Phek Josheph Thongliu attended the program.
