Phek Police arrested an accused under POCSO Act in a minor assault case; investigation underway, victim receiving support.

KOHIMA — Phek Police have booked an accused under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for alleged sexual assault of a minor on multiple occasions, which reportedly resulted in her pregnancy.
While the identity of the accused was not disclosed in the official statement, sources said the accused is a senior citizen from Phek district and is known to the victim.
It was learnt that the minor was allegedly sexually assaulted on multiple occasions and is reportedly a few months pregnant.

After POCSO arrest, Phek Police stress victim privacy
In an update issued on Saturday, Phek Police stated that it received a written FIR from a complainant on Friday. Accordingly, a case was registered at Women PS under Sections 64(1), 74, 75(1) (ii) and 96 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), to be read with Sections 4, 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act.
The accused was arrested on the same day and necessary legal action was initiated.
Phek police urged the public to respect the privacy of the victim and refrain from circulating any information that could lead to her identification, stating that such acts are punishable under Section 72 of BNS, 2023, and Section 23 of POCSO Act.
Further investigation is underway, and the accused has been forwarded to judicial custody. Phek Police assured timely completion of the investigation with a logical conclusion. The minor is currently receiving counselling and necessary support.
