Phek observes World TB Day

Phek district, in collaboration with the Emmanuel Hospital Association Axshya Project, has observed World Tuberculosis Day on the theme ‘Reach the million, find, treat and cure’ at Lozaphuhu village on March 24 with the public.
Dr. E Motsuthung, District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO), Phek, and resource person, apprised the public why World TB day is being observed every year. He enlightened the participants that TB is a communicable disease spread through cough, spitting by an infected person which could be infected to all stage of age. He said TB is not only a family problem but is a social problem, which could be prevented through their active corporation.
Atalu Shijoh, Senior DOTS Plus cum TB HIV Supervisor, Phek, also gave a brief account on the burden of Tuberculosis, high risk of Multi- Drug Resistance (MDR).Altogether 156 participants attended the programme after which some patients were also treated and sputum test were collected.
The programme was chaired by Kevesa Khamo, District Coordinator of Emmanuel Hospital Association Axshya Project, while the welcome address was delivered by Vechopa, Village Health member. The invocation was said by Rev. Kevengoi Sakha, Pastor of Lozaphuhu Baptist Church, and the benediction by Chiekhupa Khamo.
