Healthcare workers being administered the pledge on the occasion of World Patient Safety Day at District Hospital Phek on Thursday.

Dimapur, Sep. 17 (EMN): Along with the rest of the world, Phek district observed “World Patient Safety Day” on Thursday on the theme: “Healthcare worker safety: A priority for patient safety”.

The objectives of the “World Patient Safety Day” are to increase public awareness and engagement, enhance global understanding and spur global solidarity and action to promote patient safety, an update from the office of the chief medical offic, Phek, stated.

At the district headquarters, the day was observed in the conference hall of the District Hospital, Phek. Dr. Limanukshi, junior specialist of DH Phek and resource person, highlighted the importance of correct identification of patients, effective communication with the patient, safety of high-alert medications, ensuring correct site, correct procedure and correct patient surgery etc.

He also spoke on challenges faced by healthcare workers, stress which have increased manifold due to overtime work, increase of infection rate, violence, illness and death etc.

During the programme, a pledge taking on “Primum non nocre – First do not harm” was also administered to the healthcare workers.

Dr. Wethselo, senior paediatrician, also emphasised on the safety measures of Covid-19 pandemic.

The report further stated that programmes were also observed in all the health units under Phek district.
