Phek hosts ‘street food fest’ with safety call

Dimapur, Feb. 16 (EMN): Phek hosted a ‘street food festival’ on February 15, at the PTC office compound in Phek town. The additional deputy commissioner (ADC) for headquarters, Avelu Ruho, was the special guest of the programme, updates from the DIPR stated on Saturday.
The theme of the event was ‘eat safe, eat healthy, eat fortified’ (sic), the updates stated. The festival was organised by the District Urban Development Agency. The objective of the programme was to give a platform to self-help groups and to highlight food safety concepts and hygiene, the updates stated.

Zehol, also spoke on topics of food safety and hygiene during the event. Health is wealth as health is the most precious and valuable thing for every individual, the DIPR quoted him as having said during the event.

The officer also said every food product should be labelled ‘in order to provide information about the product ingredients and expiry date.’
In her address, ADC Avelu Ruho said ‘We have to eat food not for our taste but for the wellbeing of our body as we eat to live not live to eat.’ She ‘encouraged hygienic food and cooking but discouraged the use of plastics as it is harmful for our health and to the environment,’ the DIPR updates quoted her as having said.

In the afternoon workshop session of the event, resource persons Welhikhro Mero of the Entrepreneur Associates of Phek; and Dr. Ngopelo Keveichu, medicine specialist gave brief speeches on the topics of entrepreneurship and women’s health, the DIPR stated.
