THE Government Higher Secondary School of Phek on Wednesday took out a procession in protest against land encroachments allegedly by some individuals. The students of the government took out a ‘silent rally’ in a show resentment to the public and the district administration. The school authorities also submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Phek. The memorandum submitted to the district administration included a number of demands. The school has demanded protection of the of the government higher secondary school of Phek. The institution has stated that the school is the only government higher secondary school in the district headquarters of Phek where students from the ‘educationally and economically poor background’ attend. The land encroachers are encroaching into land areas of the school “without due permission from the government” and are taking over lands by force “for their own development process,”, the school said.
“The district administration should take immediate action to evict the land encroachers within the school demarcated area for the larger interest of the present and future generation,” the memorandum of the government school stated. In the event of the failure or delay in taking action by the district administration against the encroachers, the school said, the students’ union of the institution will ‘initiate its own course of action to protect and safe guard the demarcated area of school land.’
