DIMAPUR — Phek district observed ‘Menstrual Hygiene Day’ on May 28 at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidhalaya Government Residential Hostel in Phek town on the theme “Together for a period friendly India.”
An update from the chief medical officer (CMO), Phek, stated that the day was observed with an objective to remind that menstruation is a natural biological process and should not be a cause for stigma or discrimination.

The resource person and ICTC counselor of Phek, Nuvetalu Thira, highlighted that Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed every year on May 28 to raise awareness about menstruation and break myths and stigma and also to promote menstrual health and hygiene. She spoke on the importance of menstrual hygiene as it prevents infections, promotes health and dignity, supports confidence and well being etc.
She also shared on the maintenance of menstrual hygiene practices such as washing hands before and after changing pads, maintain personal hygiene, use clean and safe menstrual products etc.
To mark the day, sanitary pads were distributed to adolescent girls.
