Dimapur, Nov. 12 (EMN):The monthly meeting of the Phek District Planning & Development Board for the month of November was held at Shilloi Lake on November 9. The meeting was presided over by deputy commissioner and vice-chairman of the board for the district, Orenthung Lotha.
Legislator Yitachu exhorted the meeting. Updates from the DIPR on Monday informed that the member of legislative assembly had urged the Naga people to encourage and engage upcoming youths to venture into trade and business with South East countries under the Look East Policy. The reason was that ‘we cannot survive only through government jobs,’ according to the DIPR.
He also requested the board to request the government of India to address the need to work on the Avangkhu-Thamanti road.
In his speech, Deputy Commissioner Orenthung Lotha suggested that the area organize weekly trade activities with Myanmar. He told the board that traders from
Meluri will be engaged on rotation basis to initiate trade activities at the international trade centre at Avangkhu.
PWD (R&B) engineer Abija Khing also highlighted to the board the importance of the Phokhungri-Avangkhu-Laysi route and the problems concerning completion of the project with the approved DPR.
The official requested the board to recommend the revised DPR to be approved.
The programme was followed by Tug of War among officials from various departments.
