Dimapur, Sep. 17 (EMN): Wall paintings and cleanliness drives marked the ‘Swachhata Shramdann,’ organised by Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) of Tuensang division in Noklak district on September 15 and in Tuensang district on September 16.
The programme was part of 100-day campaign on “Sustainability of ODF gains and achieving millions soak pits” in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, which commenced on August 25 and would culminate on December 2, an update from the department stated.
In Noklak district “Swachhata Shramdaan” was conducted to give awareness to the rural masses through wall painting in Chingmei village by (WSSO) PHED, Tuensang division. The wall painting was organised under the supervision of Ngamen, block JE and district water and sanitation mission (DWSM), and N Sangtam, district coordinator of PHED Tuensang division.
It stated that N Sangtam has explained on the importance of grey water management through soak pit method, which is use for recharge of ground water as well as on bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste management.
It informed that members from Watsan, village council, Swachhagrahis and public participated in the drive.
In Tuensang district, the programme was conducted in New Sangsomong village. During the campaign, N Sangtam stressed on the importance of ODF plus village and the criteria to achieve ODF plus and grey water management through soak pit at household level.
He encouraged more community participation on grey water management and plastic waste management to achieve sustainability of ODF plus village.
Report added that members from the youth organisation, village council, Watsan and public attended the programme.
