Mokokchung, April 13 (EMN):
The Public Health Engineering department (PHED) Mokokchung division has been providing free water to various wards around municipality area since last week in coordination with respective ward authorities.

Executive Engineer Phed Mokokchung Yanger Pongen informed that the department has started providing free water to the people in various wards in rotation wise using the department’s tanker. He added that the department has provided water to the people of Kumlong, Salangtem, Kichutip and Dilong.

Pongen informed that the department will be providing water to the residents of Alempang ward on April 14, while the remaining wards will also be covered in rotation wise. The department plans to provide free water to all the wards in rotation manner until the lockdown is lifted, he informed.

He informed that around 20,000 litre of water has been given to the ward and the volume of water differs according to the population.

It may be mentioned that most of drinking water supply systems in Nagaland depend on surface sources such as streams, rivulets, springs and ponds, which are monsoon fed. The volume of water discharge of such sources vary widely from season to season, depending on the frequency and intensity of rainfall, which is indicated by vastly diminished discharge during the non-monsoon periods leading to drinking water scarcity in many towns and villages.
