DIMAPUR — The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Phek division observed Global Handwashing Day on Tuesday on the theme ‘Why clean hands are still important?’
In an update, the district coordinator of PHED, Phek division informed that the day was observed to raise awareness on the importance of hand hygiene to prevent a range of infectious diseases.
The campaign was organised at Anganwadi centre, Gidemi village, Phek district. Importance of handwashing with soaps, which is considered one of the simplest and most effective way to prevent disease like diarrhoea and hormonal diseases, was highlighted and the seven important steps of handwashing with soaps were demonstrated.
To mark the day, sanitary items like soaps, hand towels and segregation bins were distributed to all the participants.
