Dimapur Aug. 16 (EMN): The minister for Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) Jacob Zhimomi has inaugurated the new office building of executive engineer PHED at Longleng on Aug. 15 during his visit to the district as the Independence Day celebration special guest. A press release from the Department of Information and Public Relations informed on Thursday.
In his inaugural speech, Zhimomi said that no government has a magic wand to transform the state overnight and redress all its problems. He informed that People’s Democratic Alliance is a new government and it will take time like any other government to plan and execute to provide proper facilities to the people. He added that the government and the people are equally responsible for the progress of the state and appealed the gathering to stop pressurising the government and extend full cooperation and support to ensure peace and progress in the state. He stated “together we will change the system and strive forward for a better Nagaland”.
The minister also spoke about financial status of the state, he said that ‘we have no resources of our own we have no trade and commerce and industries to provide job opportunity to the people in the private sector.’ That is the reason; Nagaland is dependent on the central government and the state government for providing jobs to the people.
Zhimomi also spoke about the Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation (ENPO). He informed that despite financial constrain the PDA government is committed to prioritised the development of the ENPO area to redress their grievances. Also, he urged people to protect and have ownership of the public properties. Further, he informed that water supply connection for Longleng headquarter is under process and he had apprised the central government for consideration and approval at the earliest.
The deputy commissioner of Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam, has congratulated officers and staffs of the PHED department for completing the new executive engineer office successfully. He stated that it was a proud moment for the district and the Phom community to have such a beautiful building in Longleng. He is hopeful that it will bear more fruits, render best service, and cater to the needs of the people. Sangtam also raised concerns on the matter of water scarcity in the area.
