DIMAPUR — An information, education, and communication (IEC) awareness campaign on water quality monitoring and surveillance source sustainability was held at the PHED rural division office, Kohima, on Monday.
The campaign was part of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Har Ghar Jal Mission, and ODF Plus Village initiatives under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
On the occasion, district coordinator and WASH consultant, PHED, Kohima division, Ashale Seb spoke about water conservation, source sustainability, and solid and liquid waste management, while quality manager (chemist), PHED, Kohima division, Dziesetseinuo Kiso demonstrated water quality testing with field testing kits as well as distributed kits to users and swachhagrahis.
The event was attended by the village council chairman, WATSAN chairman, field testing kit users, and swachhagrahis from selected villages in Kohima rural block.
IEC WASH consultant Vibou Seyie and sanitation and hygiene consultant Virhelie Kruneilie of PHED, Kohima rural division, spoke on waterborne and excreta-related diseases during the event. A pledge was also administered to eliminate single-use plastics.
The awareness programme was organised by the PHED Kohima rural division and sponsored by the Sanitation and WSSO, PHED Nagaland.
A similar awareness programme was also held on July 21 at Chunlikha Village, Tseminyu, which was graced by Longasen Lotha, ADC and administrator of Tseminyu Town Council.
Speaking as the special guest during an IEC awareness programme on water quality monitoring, source sustainability, Har Ghar Jal Mission, and ODF plus village declaration held at Jireh School, Chunlikha, Lotha, commended Chunlikha Village and neighbouring villages for setting exemplary standards in cleanliness, civic sense, and for being torchbearers.
He expressed confidence that this awareness can spread to other regions. He mentioned that with the proper vision and action plan, Tseminyu district can become a model green district through concerted efforts by all stakeholders to protect and conserve the environment.
Along with students and teachers from Jireh School Chunlikha, members of the Chunlikha Village Council, the Nsunyu WATSAN committee, and residents of the villages of Likhwenchu and Chunlikha attended the event.
