Dimapur, Feb. 25 (EMN):
The department of Public Health Engineering (Phed) collected a total of INR 168.55 lakh for the year 2019-2020, up to December 2019, in its yearly water fee revenue collection, which also put in record for the lowest revenue collection in the past six years, during 2014-19.

This was stated in the annual administrative report for 2019-2020 of the Phed. The report stated that a total of INR 265.97 lakh was collected as revenue for the year 2018-2019 whereas a total revenue of INR 283.56 lakh were collected for the year 2017-2018.

According to the report, the department generates revenue by way of exacting ‘water fees from registered water consumers,’ mostly from the urban areas of the state.

The department informed that the water fees, collected by the Water and Sanitary (Watsan) committee from the rural areas, do not contribute to the department’s revenue as the revenue collected augments the internal resources of the committee for operations and management of the village water and sanitation facilities.

As for the measures taken by the department for mobilisation of water revenue, the report stated that commercial establishments such as hotels, restaurants, private schools, clinics etc which previously was registered as domestic consumers were now brought under the commercial consumer category.
