An update from the college stated that the programme was attended by faculty members and students of BA and B.Sc 6th semester.
It stated that the resource person, Dr. Nichukholie Vupru, district oral health officer, presented facts on oral cancer and spoke on the types, factors, signs and symptoms and treatments of oral cancer.
He mentioned that the programme was conducted coinciding with 'Oral Cancer Screening Month' of the Medical department to sensitise the youth and to create awareness in society.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]He informed that many young people in the age group of 20 years and above in the district as well as in the state is facing oral problems. He added that in India about 95% cases on oral cancer are found to affect people above 40 years of age.
As 77,000 new cases and 52,000 deaths are reported annually, he stressed on the need for regular dental checkups for early diagnosis and for timely treatment.
During the discussion session, several queries were answered by the resource person.
The assistant professor of Physics, Vinituono Krose, chaired the programme, while the college’s principal, Dr. T Tiakaba Jamir, delivered the welcome address and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by IQAC coordinator, Dr. Nutazo Lohe.
