Dimapur, Sep. 23 (EMN): Emphasising on sustainable livelihood for rural farming community, the department of Land Resources, Peren division, headed by the district project officer, Alemla Aier, conducted a one-day training-cum-field demonstration on organic farming of Permaculture at its Jalukie office on September 22.
Permaculture is defined as a set of design principles centred on whole systems thinking, simulating, or directly utilising the patterns and resilient features observed in natural ecosystems. It uses those principles in a growing number of fields from regenerative agriculture, rewilding, and community resilience.
A DIPR report stated that the participants were given first-hand information on permaculture designs wherein five different permaculture designs were created at the office premises using locally available materials like empty plastic bottles, bamboo, wood and stone for demonstration.
Speaking on the occasion, Aier stated that it is about beneficial design that would not just benefit humans but to the larger ecosystem that it exists within ‘Earth care-people care- fair share.’
The report further stated that participants were also provided with seeds of winter crops and farming tools.
