Dimapur, Dec. 7 (EMN): The 17th edition of Peren Town Youth Organisation (PTYO) inter-ward tournament kicked off at Peren town local ground on Wednesday.

Azeu Namcyn Hau, personal secretary to UDA Chairman attended the inaugural programme as special guest. The tournament covers competition in football, women volleyball and wrestling (under 12).

Speaking on the occasion, Hau challenged the youths to cultivate the habit of ‘playing to win’ at a young age.

‘Many people say that it doesn’t really matter whether you win or lose but what matters is how you play the game but I feel this maxim is wrong because it matters to win if you are playing a game because to win is the goal,’ Hau stated, according to an update.

‘Although one cannot win all the time and how one plays the game also does matter’ he stated that ‘winning makes one realise what one is capable of which doesn’t happen when one merely plays the game well,’ it read.

Hau encouraged the participants to develop the quality of being a good sportsperson, which will help them in the long run to build teamwork, character, discipline, kindness, patience, resilience and perseverance.

Earlier, the inaugural programme commenced with flag hoisting ceremony by the special guest while the tournament torch was lit by Isizaibe, who was adjudged ‘Player of the Tournament’ during the 16th Edition in 2021.

The programme also witnessed ‘Aerobics’ choreographed by Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Peren while artistes from Zeliang Music Association (ZMA), Kenlumyile and Isile Hegeu enthralled the gathering with their melodious songs.
