DIMAPUR — Peren police successfully apprehended a rape suspect from Zunheboto district on Friday, following a complaint filed at the Women Police Station Jalukie on May 1.
The accused, a close relative of the victim, is facing charges under Section 376(3) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to an update, despite the accused initially evading authorities, Peren police, utilising local intelligence and technical surveillance, swiftly located and arrested him from Zunheboto district within a day of the complaint being lodged.
Investigations are ongoing to gather evidence and establish the facts of the case, it said, while requesting the public to respect the privacy of the victim and her family.
