Peren district launches ‘Anti-malaria month’

DIMAPUR — Commemorating ‘Anti-malaria month,’ Peren division of Health department under the National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC) conducted a health camp in Helagem village on June 10 on the theme “Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate, implement.”

Speaking at the programme, the district vector borne disease officer, Dr. Hedungkiebe, informed that anti-malaria month is observed every year in the month of June with an aim to spread awareness, educate and reduce the malaria disease burden.

An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Peren, informed that the district team led by DVBDO, assistant malaria officer, district consultant, malaria inspector, surveillance inspectors, malaria technical supervisors and surveillance workers along with ASHA have covered Nsenlwa, Helagem, Rongkaidai, Kezanglwa and Kipeuzang villages out of the total ten selected villages for the anti malaria month activity. It added that the remaining villages namely Azailong, Tening, Songsang, New Peren and Kamdi Bazaar would be covered in the coming days.

It stated that emphasis is being made on daily usage of long lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN) that were previously distributed. Besides, people are being educated of the telling signs of malaria, JE and dengue through community sensitisation programmes, posters and leaflets and also aware on free treatment for malaria available in all the government health Facilities.

Report also stated that the public are urged to get every fever tested for malaria and follow all preventive measures to prevent mosquito bites. It added that activities in schools are also being conducted simultaneously.

Dr. Hedungkiebe informed that the district has last reported one malaria case in November 2022 and added that no positive case has been recorded in 2023. He also added that the district is actively working to maintain the negative status in the current year.
