Peren discusses growing water demands on World Toilet Day

A workshop on the ‘Year of Water Conservation’ and in commemoration of ‘World Toilet Day’ for WATSAN committee members was organized by PHED, Peren division sponsored by WSSO, Nagaland, on November 19 at town hall, Peren town.The main objective of the workshop was to identity and promotes practices that result in more efficient use of water; it also aimed at bringing awareness among the masses to save water for future generation. Smita Sarangi, ADC Peren graced the inaugural function as chief guest. Er P Khetoi Awomi, ZBYD pronounced the invocation prayer.
The chief guest expressed gratitude to participants for showing the importance of water and taking active parts in an effort of water conservation. She emphasized on the importance of water conservation as the need of the water in view of limited resources and growing water demands. She also stressed on the need to save water for the future wherein water depletion has been on rise.’
Vito G Sema, Hygiene & sanitation consultant Peren gave a presentation on water conservation wherein he emphasized on bringing mass awareness on water conservation related issues and encouraging conserving and using water judiciously. He also advocated the practices of minimal usage of water and the need to preserve and maintains traditional wells.
Er P Khetoi also briefed the participants on the importance of preserving forest and maintaining the balance ecosystem. He encouraged for revival of traditional wells in villages and the implementation of rain water harvesting in problem villages.
Er Ichirang Zeliang, SDO Peren delivered message on the ‘World Toilet Day’ and sanitation in villages. He briefed on the importance of world toilet day and highlighted the profound impact of the sanitation crisis in a rigorous manner, and bring to the forefront the health and emotional consequences as well as the economic impact of inadequate sanitation. He encouraged the participants to be passionate about toilets to ensure that access to proper sanitation, which have been declared a human right, become a reality for all.
