Peren DHS conducts training on ‘Anemia Mukt Bharat’

Dimapur, June 29 (EMN): Peren district health society (DHS) organised block level orientation training on ‘Anemia Mukt Bharat’ for government teachers, nurses and accredited social health activists (ASHA) in Tening, Ahthibung, Jalukie and Peren block respectively from June 24 to the 29th.

An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Peren, stated that resource persons have sensitised the trainees on the prevalence of anemia in the state as well as health implications such as reduction in physical and cognitive development and its impact on the economy. They also highlighted strategies to combat anemia, ill effects of iron deficiency which could lead to anemia in children and result in still births and maternal deaths during pregnancy.

The government teachers were encouraged to watch for signs and symptoms of anemia among school students and emphasised on the importance of taking iron folic acid tablets in order to prevent the disease. The trainees were also made to understand the aim of the training to reduce prevalence of anemia in the district by imparting proper knowledge to the health workers and teachers.

Altogether, 260 trainees including government teachers, nurses and ASHA from all the four blocks of the district attended the training.

The resource persons were Dr. Keholi Asumi, DPO (RCH&UIP); Dr. Imtiakum Aier, SMO of Jalukie CHC; Dr. Paokhotinlen Singson, MO of Poilwa PHC; and Dr. Vekholu Khamo, MO (Ayush) of Ahthibung PHC.
