Dimapur, Jan. 9 (EMN): The Peren District VDB Secretary Association has appealed to the Rural Development blocks under Peren district to return the VDB (village development board) MGNREGS accounts details like passbook, chequebook to the concerned VDBs and Village Councils. The association has claimed that the documents have been in the possession of the department since the inception of MGNREGA schemes in 2008.
“It is astonishing to note that all the MGNREGS account particulars of VDBs under Peren District are illegally confined in the custody of the BDOs and the VDB Secretaries are asked to sign on a multiple blank cheque during every release of the MGNREGA fund and only a single cheque is given back to the VDB Secretary / Village Council,” read a statement issued by the association.
“The VDBs have no clue how much the concerned officers are drawing from the remaining signed blank cheque and how the funds is being utilised,” it said, adding that “this practice has been going on since the inception of the MGNREGA Schemes and the VDBs accounts has become like the personal accounts of the BDO which is illegal.”
The association has warned that it would be compelled to take its own recourse if the BDOs of Peren district do not return all the MGNREGS accounts particulars of the VDBs to the concerned VDB Secretary.
