Dimapur, May 1 (EMN): The Peren administration has authorized village councils to identify individuals who violate the ban on fishing, hunting, and burning jugles.
Burning jungles, and fishing and hunting in any form including by use of airguns, is banned in Peren district till further order. This is in accordance with a decision taken by the district planning and development board of Peren on April 15, updates from the IPR informed on Wednesday.
Village councils have been authorised to identify offenders and to fine them INR 5000. This was decided on May 1 by the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office, the IPR stated.
DC Sarita Yadav convened a meeting with regard to what the IPR called “rampant burning of jungle” in the district. She highlighted a 2014 DPDB resolution banning hunting, fishing and “rampant burning of jungle” in the district, the updates stated.
The district administration has instructed village council chairmen, gaon bura, and community leaders to ‘take extra care about the danger and recklessly burning of jungle,’ the IPR added.
