Morena/Bhind/Gwalior, May 8 (PTI): Stepping up his attack on Narendra Modi, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi Wednesday said he won't become the prime minister again as people have lost faith in him.
Addressing a poll rally at Morena ahead of the third phase of Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh on May 12, Gandhi said Modi can't face the truth that he has failed to deliver on his promises.
"Let Narendra Modi say anything now, people have lost faith in him. He can no longer face the truth that the promises he made during the 2014 general elections have not been fulfilled," Gandhi said.
"Modi can't face the truth that he has delivered nothing, and instead taken away jobs of the poor and youth by his decisions like demonetisation and GST," he said.
Demonetisation was widely used to convert the black money into white by the most corrupt people in the country, Gandhi said. "All the thieves in the country have converted their black money into white with the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he added.
Gandhi accused Modi of "never speaking" to the common man, the poor and women in the country.
"Modi went abroad and met several industrialists and was also seen greeting and hugging people, but I will never ever hug Anil Ambani. I will stay with the poor people of this country," he said.
Earlier, at a rally in Bhind, Gandhi claimed Modi carried out parallel negotiations with France for the Rafale fighter jet deal and insulted martyrs by "committing a theft" in the multi-crore defence contract.
Gandhi said Modi is looking "depressed" these days as he has sensed he is going to lose the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
"Officials of the Indian Air Force wrote that Narendra Modi held parallel negations with France. Chowkidar was holding direct dialogue with the manufacturer of Rafale Dassault...Chowkidar now explain to the country why you committed a theft?" he said.
"What was your feeling when you were committing theft.
Did you think that you are snatching jobs from the youths of Bhind? No. Did you think that you are insulting the martyrs? No. You did not think this. But Narendra Modi ji, nobody can escape justice," he said.
Gandhi said the "chowkidar chor hai" slogan has not been coined by the Congress or him but by the youths and labourers of the country.
The Congress chief has repeatedly hurled "chowkidar chor hai" (the watchman is a thief) jibe at Modi to target him over the Rafale deal.
"Mediapersons asked me today about the genesis of the chowkidar chor hai slogan. I told them that while addressing a rally in Chhattisgarh, I said the chowkidar promised two crore jobs to the youth and assured Rs 15 lakh will be deposited in bank account of each Indian.
"Around 10-15 young men in the rally said 'chor hai'.
"I did not hear it the first time. So I asked (the young men) what did you say? They said 'chor hai'.
"This slogan was not coined by the Congress, or by Rahul Gandhi, but it is a slogan of the youth, farmers and labourers of India," he said.
"Once my car halted at a traffic signal and an auto rickshaw stopped by the side of my window. The auto driver saw me smiling, looked in my eyes and said `chowkidar chor hai'," he said.
The Congress chief's remarks came on a day he tendered an unconditional apology in the Supreme Court for wrongfully attributing to the apex court the 'chowkidar chor hai' remark in the Rafale verdict.
"Narendra is not coming back.. his vehicle has gone away..end..flop show," Gandhi said. "See his face, see the energy in him, looking depressed... he has lost the election," he added.
Addressing a rally in Gwalior, Gandhi said the Rafale deal would be probed if his party came to power after the Lok Sabha elections and claimed the inquiry would throw up two names - that of Modi and industrialist Anil Ambani.
He again challenged Modi for a debate on the Rafale deal at any place "except Ambani's residence" and maintained the prime minister would not be able to face the country as truth in the deal would surface.
On Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Masood Azhar, Gandhi said it was a BJP-led government which took the terrorist out from India's jail.
"They put him aboard a plane, BJP's minister took the (same) flight and BJP's minister gave money to Jaish-e- Mohammed. And the same terrorist killed CRPF men in Pulwama.
Modi should answer who did this job," Gandhi said.
Azhar and two other terrorists were set free by the Vajpayee government in exchange of hostages of the IC-814 Indian Airlines flight hijacked to Kandahar in December 1999.
Azhar later went on to set up the Jaish-e-Mohammed, a Pakistan-based terror outfit that claimed responsibility for the February 14 suicide attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama.
