IMPHAL — After releasing the Diglot Edition of the Constitution of India in Manipuri language (Meetei Mayek script) last month, the Manipur government is now making the book available to the public for reading, reference and use.

According to a press release, the Law and Legislative Affairs department has assigned the stocking of the book to the Job Centre Babupara, Imphal, as an initial step. The Minister of Law and Legislative Affairs, Th Basanta Kumar Singh, has announced a 20% rebate on the price for students at all levels, who can avail it by providing a photocopy of their valid ID cards.

On November 26, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, along with four cabinet ministers, three legislators and officials, released the Diglot Edition as part of Constitution Day celebrations in Imphal. It marked the first time the Constitution was published in the Meetei Mayek script.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister called it a historic moment for Manipuris, considering the Indian Constitution is the world’s longest written constitution.
