MOKOKCHUNG, SEPTEMBER 7: The government higher school of Sapotimi, in Zunheboto, has a new school building now. The building was inaugurated by adviser-to-chief minister Merentoshi R Jamir at Sapotimi village. Sapotimi village is some 30kilometer away from Longsa village of Mokokchung district. In his address, the chief guest lamented that the people care less for school buildings, especially those of government schools which are often in dilapidate conditions. Jamir said that the people give more importance to building magnificent churches instead of developing better infrastructure for schools to give quality education and environment to students. Merentoshi has urged the people to give more importance to the uplift of education and schools. They are an institution that will shape and prepare youths for a good future, he said. Also, saying that imparting knowledge ‘printed in text’ was not enough, the young Member of Legislative Assembly encouraged teachers to maintain good relations with both parents and students and be role models for students. Expressing gratitude to Sapotimi’s villagers for inviting him to the inaugural programme, Merentoshi Jamir said that Longsa and Sapotimi villagers have always maintained good relations as with adjoining Sumi villages. In this regard, he urged the people of the villages to strengthen their bonds.
