Dimapur, May 7 (EMN): The Nagaland Pensioners Association (NPA) has appealed to the principal accountant general (AG) to release all the Revision of Pay arrears without further delay to pensioners or else attract 18% rate of interest as ruled by the Supreme Court.

The association issued on Tuesday a copy of a letter addressed to the AG.

The requisite documents regarding pensioners and family pensioners have already been submitted to the AG by the drawing and disbursing authority but so far no action has been taken by the AG of Nagaland, the association stated.

“As we are all aware that the Supreme Court has authoritatively ruled that pension is not a bounty but a differed wage and its payment does not depend upon the discretion of the government but is governed by rules on the subject.”

According to the press release, it is obvious that according to the Nagaland Finance department all the updated amendment and decisions by the govt. of India shall be deemed to have been automatically adopted by the government of Nagaland.

In compliance with the central government directives the Finance department of Nagaland had sanctioned pre-2008 revision of pension/family pension with effect from April 1 2008, the letter stated.

‘Subsequently the requisite documents regarding pensioners and family pensioners have already been submitted to AG of Nagaland, by the drawing and disbursing authority (respective bank branch managers/treasury officer) but so far no action has been taken by the AG,’ the association stated.

“Your benign office is once again requested to release all the ROP arrear without further delay to the pensioners/family pensioners, otherwise as per the Supreme Court ruling it will attract 18% rate of interest as in the case of 1987 (5) SLR 288 OP Gupta Vs. UOI,’ the letter added.
