With the objective of preventing conflicts by engaging, empowering and enabling the youth as peace builders, the Peace Channel of Kiphire district organized a one-day peace and cultural celebration recently at Saramati High School Campus with the theme: ‘Inspiring change towards a violence free world.’
In his address, T.Lankonsen Tsanglao, SDO (C) who graced the occasion as the chief guest encouraged the students to be firm with their cause to change the society. He maintained that it was not only the job of the administrative, military, civil society leaders or any other officers to bring peace but the duty of every individual to contribute and bring lasting peace in the society.
“Lasting peace is possible through peace education. Where there is no good governance, the result is corruption and injustice and as a result peace is disturbed and no development is possible.”The guest of honour, A.J.Sebastian, Principal of Trinity High School Kiphire, urged the students to learn their ancestral culture and safeguard it from vanishing. “It is the culture and peace that brings people together irrespective of religion and region. It is time to inculcate and preserve our dying culture and values of peace and harmonious living,” he said.
Information Secretary USCC, Akheto challenged the students to come forward and join hands to promote love and peace in the society. “Peace is possible when we shed the differences. The time has come to stand together for peace.”
The programme commenced with invocation by Brother Jijo from Loyola Hr.Sec.School. Vote of thanks was proposed by Tsapikyu, Coordinator, Peace Channel Kiphire. Over three hundred youth participated in the programme and pledged to stand for peace.
