Peace committee formed to resolve Diezephe-Tsithrongse dispute
DIMAPUR — The Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Dimapur (ENPUD) held a meeting concerning the incident of February 9 between Diezephe and Tsithrongse villages, stemming from a boundary dispute.
According to a press release, the two apex bodies, after a marathon dialogue, established a committee under the banner “Peace Committee for Diezephe and Tsithrongse Village” to address the 35-year-long dispute.
The members unanimously selected both the apex union presidents, Vekhosayi Nyekha and L Shahoto Yimkhiung, as convenor and co-convenor for the committee, respectively, along with five representatives from each union.
After forming the committee, representatives from both unions visited both villages on February 14 for a consultative meeting, during which both villages agreed to give written endorsement to the peace committee in order to bring a final and amicable solution to the dispute.
“It is also further decided that 5 members each from the two villages will be part of the committee,” the release said, adding that the peace committee appeals to both villages to maintain the status quo as per government order until the matter is amicably resolved.
