Peace Accord with KA armed orgs. will be signed before August 15, assures Shah

Diphu, July 26 (EMN):
Pressuring the Central government for early signing of peace accord with armed organisations of Karbi Anglong and to fix the date within the month of August 2021, CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister, Amit Shah in presence of Assam Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at Hotel Vivanta in Guwahati on Sunday.

The memorandum stated, “We deeply appreciate the unprecedented action you have initiated to restore complete normalcy and peace in the hills of Assam since December of 2020, especially signing the peace accord with armed organisations. The collective leadership of Karbi Anglong along with all the social and cultural organisations is satisfied that the process of signing the proposed peace accord with armed organisations of Karbi Anglong is at the final stage since the signing ceremony”.

After a prolonged discussion, the Home minister assured that the Peace Accord would be signed before August 15, sources said.

Meanwhile, the six rebel groups of Karbi Anglong included in the peace accord are Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) and three factions of the Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT).

In this regard, various political, social, cultural and literary and students’ organisations and NGOs of Karbi Anglong have welcomed the peace accord.
