12-hour road blockade along Zunheboto – Chakhabama, Pfutsero – Phek road

DIMAPUR — The Phek District Maytas-Gayatri Damaged Victim Association (PDMGDVA) on Friday confirmed that its proposed road blockade will take place on Dec.9 as the state government has failed to release the long-pending compensation to victims of damaged infrastructure along the two-lane Zunheboto – Chakhabama and Pfutsero – Phek Road under Phek district.

The agitation on Dec. 9 will involve a 12-hour blockade from 6 am to 6 pm along the 2-Lane Chakhabama-Zunheboto Road under Chozuba sub-division from Sedzu Bridge (East) to Dzulhami jurisdiction bordering Zunheboto District (North) and the 2-Lane Pfutsero – Phek Road, from Rukizu Junction, Pfutsero (West) to Upper Khomi jurisdiction bordering Losami (East).

Earlier on Dec. 6, the association issued a press release, stating that the “Entry point to 2 Lane Chakhabama – Zunheboto Road namely Chesezu junction from Pfutsero, Runguzu Nasa junction from Phek via Thevopisu, Chozuba junction from Iganumi/Ghathashi, Chozuba junction from Kohima via Kijumetu/Khusoh, Sekruzu/Suthozu junction from Phek via Phugi & Ruzazho will be affected.”

Likewise entry point to 2 Lane Pfutsero – Phek Road from Chizami to Sakrabami and Upper Khomi junction will be affected, the release stated while requesting commuters to avoid taking these roads while agitation is in force.

The association’s convener, Pushovoyi Nyekha, said the vehicular movement of the administration, Police, Armed Forces, hospital duty/patients, media, funeral, wedding, students, those writing exams and farmers involved in harvesting will be exempted from the purview of the blockade.

Nyekha also said that the agitation would not take place on Sunday (Dec. 10). However, if there is no positive response from the government and Deputy Chief Minister (National Highway), the agitation will intensify.

“We have waited for the government to release our due amount for more than one-month. If they fail to release the compensation to the victims, we will intensify our agitation from Dec. 11 onwards,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, in view of the blockade, the deputy commissioner of Phek district has requested the district superintendent of police to make adequate security arrangements.
