PCC organises workshop on creative direction
DIMAPUR — The department of Mass Communication, Patkai Christian College (PCC), Chümoukedima, organised a workshop on creative direction on Friday at the mass communication studio of the college, with Tiakumzuk Aier, director of Dreamz Unlimited, as the resource person.
During the workshop, three public service announcement videos made by third year Mass Communication students were released. The short videos titled ‘Lulu,’ ‘Social Media a Trap House,’ and ‘Human Trafficking’ are part of the department’s extension activity to raise awareness in society about pressing issues and concerns.
According to a press release from the college, Aier provided feedback and pointed out areas that needed attention for their future projects following the screening.
He also shared the journey of Dreamz Unlimited and his experience in filmmaking and direction. Filmmaking requires patience and passion, and in order to bring a story to the people, one must be open to learning and observant of what is going on around them, he said.
Aier stated that, as filmmakers and directors, one must devote time to writing a good script. “Let the script be the hero,” he said.
Aier also discussed the common mistakes that amateur filmmakers make, such as a weak story, bad sound, poor casting choices, poor lighting, generic music, and shots with no purpose, among other things.
The biggest challenge in filmmaking, he said, is funding and a platform to screen films that can aid in investment returns, which OTT apps can help with.
Sunep, an actor and Dreamz Unlimited member, spoke about acting and emphasised that an actor should understand the story while reading the script, not just their own dialogues but also the dialogues of their co-actors, in order to keep the script’s flow and tempo.
Earlier, in her speech, Neilevono Vüprü, dean of Social Sciences at PCC, stated that the trait that distinguishes one person from another is their ‘power of creativity’. She hoped that the workshop would spark creativity in the students.
She also urged the students to abandon laziness and idleness and to be confident, consistent, and disciplined, as well as to challenge themselves and take advantage of the opportunities provided.
