Dimapur, Oct. 28 (EMN): Campaigning for its party candidate in the upcoming bye-election to the 60-Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency, the deputy chief minister and leader of BJP legislature party (BLP), Yanthungo Patton, has appealed to the electorates to vote for Lirimong Sangtam, who is also the PDA consensus candidate.
Addressing a public meeting at Pungro local ground on October 26, Patton asserted that Sangtam is a young, capable and qualified upcoming leader amongst the Naga youngsters, an update from the office of the deputy chief minister stated on Tuesday.
“Many capable intending candidates had vied for the PDA consensus ticket, but the party had chosen Lirimong considering his zeal in social services and in acknowledging his loyalty towards the party and to the people,” Patton stated.
Patton further reminded the gathering that never in the history had a ruling government lost in a bye-election, particularly in Nagaland context. Also reminding that there would be rumours to confuse the people, he advised the public not to be carried away by such election propaganda but rather stand firm for the benefit of opportunities and development by supporting the BJP candidate.
He also stated that the present PDA government, which is a coalition of BJP, NDPP and Independent, has dedicated and committed leaders to complete the remaining term. He appealed to the public not to take a wrong decision but to ensure victory of the BJP candidate to further strengthen the present PDA government.
Highlighting the ongoing development programmes, Patton stated that Kiphire, being an ‘aspirational district’, was fortunate to be selected to have an extension branch office of the only Nagaland Tools and Training Centre located at Dimapur through the initiative of the advisor of Industries and Commerce and ITI, Imnatiba. He stated that the proposal has been already approved and waiting for implementation.
Patton also stated that through the initiative of the PHED minister, Jacob Zhimomi, Jal Jevaan Mission has already started to deliver safe drinking water in Pungro area which would be covered during 2020-2021.
Others who spoke at the meeting included minister P Paiwang Konyak, minister Jacob Zhimomi, advisor L Khumo, advisor Khehovi, advisor Imnatiba, BJP ticket aspirants, former candidates and PDA consensus candidate Lirimong Sangtam.
