Patton felicitates police personnel
Dimapur, July 5 (EMN): The deputy chief minister and in-charge of Home department, Y Patton, has felicitated five police escort personnel attached to him on July 5 for their alacrity in apprehending truck driver involved in a hit and run case.
It may be recalled that on July 2, a truck rammed into an Eeco taxi near ICAR under ADC Medziphema sub-division and fled the spot resulting in the death of five persons and causing grievous injuries to three others. Upon reaching the accident site, the escort party, who were on their way to Kohima after dropping the deputy chief minister at the airport, turned back and apprehended the trucker driver after a hot pursuit, stated a DIPR report.
Patton lauded the police personnel for showing extraordinary courage and presence of mind even videotaping the whole episode. He further encouraged the policemen and women to be ever ready to the extent of taking initiatives beyond their call of duty when situation demands.
Patton acknowledged the five escort personnel with a cash award of INR 20,000 each as token of appreciation. It was also learned that Patton had instructed the department to give befitting recognition for their exemplary action.
