DIMAPUR — The highly anticipated 48th Patkai Sports Meet officially kicked off on Monday, marking the start of a week-long celebration of athleticism and sportsmanship.
The opening ceremony, hosted by Songaror Horam and Julika K Sheqi, began with an invocation by Vichükho Ngukha, the Chaplain of Patkai Christian College (PCC), informed an update from the PCC mass comm. department.
Chief guest Seyeikhrietuo Solo, EAC Seithekema and administrator, emphasised that success in sports is not only about identifying the winner, but also about being gracious losers. “Sports is not just about winning; it’s about instilling teamwork,” the update quoted him as saying.
Meanwhile, Dr. Thepfüvilie Pierü, Principal of PCC, extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, faculty, staff, and the enthusiastic audience in attendance.
Dikho Shiipfo, the sports secretary, set the tone for the week, expressing his hope that the spirit of sportsmanship would prevail in every competition, the update stated.
The 1974 band delivered an enchanting special performance and the ceremony concluded with the taking of the oath and the march past by the NCC and the sports leaders, along with their respective teams.
Following the opening ceremony, the six-day event commenced, featuring competitions in 15 individual and team sporting discipline. Students, organised into six groups, will compete for the championship, with the event concluding on November 4, the update stated.
