DIMAPUR — Patkai Christian College held an inter-departmental talk on media, language, and communication at Chümoukedima on May 4.
According to an update, the programme united students and faculty from the English and Mass Communication departments for an academic exchange on contemporary media practices and interdisciplinary learning.
The programme emphasised critical inquiry in understanding media narratives, digital communication, and visual culture. Four student speakers presented papers on themes at the intersection of language, media, and communication studies.
Velu Nyekha (MA IV Semester, English) highlighted that media narratives shape public perception and are not neutral. She encouraged audiences to critically engage with media content and examine the underlying narratives that influence understanding.
Joy Arücho (BA VI Semester, Mass Communication) addressed evolving consumer behaviour and the shift to interactive digital platforms. He noted that algorithm-driven content significantly influences audience preferences and perceptions.
Songaror Horam (BA IV Semester, English) explained how meaning is constructed through signs and symbols. He observed that public spaces serve as sites of communication shaped by institutional authority and individual expression.
Grace C Ezung (BA VI Semester, Mass Communication) discussed how films use visual and auditory techniques such as composition, lighting, colour, and sound to engage audiences in meaning-making.
Talisunep, Assistant Professor, Department of English, described the programme as informative in his concluding remarks and emphasised the importance of meaningful, sensitive inter-departmental engagement in strengthening academic discourse.
