Dimapur, March 11 (EMN): Citing that annual celebrations of “Phom Day” on June 6 and another special occasion “Phoms towards 21st century” are observed to uphold and harness peace, Health minister S Pangnyu Phom has appealed to the Phom community to continue working together with unity and oneness for all-round development of the district.

He stated this while addressing the gathering at the foundation stone laying ceremony of District Hospital Longleng on March 10 at the new hospital site. He also appealed to the people to avail the Covid-19 vaccine to control and contain the spread of the virus. Pangnyu also appealed to the health department officials for early completion of the DPR, pursue post creation and other follow-up actions for early functioning of the hospital with full facilities, a DIPR report stated.

He expressed gratitude to the district task force, frontline workers, government officials, civil societies, PBCA and the church for their contributions and making the hospital as one of the most successful district hospitals with CHC status during the pandemic. He stated that Longleng hospital was the lone hospital in the state with CHC status during the Covid-19 crisis.

Also speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner of Longleng, M Shayung Phom, pointed out that the Covid-19 pandemic was a blessing in disguise for the Longleng district as lots of unexpected development took place for the uplift of the hospital during the period. He narrated how both Covid hospital and District Hospital had functioned with the available resources and active contribution from various sources.

The director of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Neikhrielie Khimiao, asserted that the department alone cannot develop the hospital without the active support and cooperation of the people. He, therefore, called upon everyone to extend their hand to uplift the hospital.

Briefing on the overview of the project Moanaro, executive engineer of Medical Engineering Division, Kohima, informed that it would be a 50 bedded hospital with an estimated cost of INR 12 crore. She said that preparation of DPR is underway and would be completed soon and added that site development would go side by side for speedy completion of the construction.

Others who spoke included presidents of PPC, Phomla Hoichem, and Longleng Town Ward and chairman of Orangkong village council. The welcome address was delivered by medical superintendent Dr. Lhouvizotuo Belho and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Obangjungla, CMO, Longleng.

The Health minister also inaugurated the upgradation of Yachem PHC to community health centre (CHC). The welcome address and report on health status was delivered by CMO Longleng, Dr. Obangjungla, followed with short speeches by EAC Yachem Pichano Kikon, director of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Neikhrielie Khimiao, head barrick of Yaongyimchen Longkang, chairman of Alayung village council Manshei, chairman of Sanglu village council Mokba, 2nd barrick of Yachem Longnyu, and PPC president Shami Angh.
