Dimapur, Dec. 18 (EMN): Minister of Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, during his official visit to Longleng district on December 16 and 17, inaugurated three newly-recognised villages namely Yongsham, Mungkhu and Meyongkhang. Besides, the minister also inaugurated three health sub-centres at Yongphang, Hukphang and Mongtikang villages.

Speaking at the inaugural programme of the newly recognised villages, Pangnyu Phom called upon various leaders of the Phom community to change their mindset and focus on development of the district. He called upon the community to uphold peace with the feeling of oneness as pledged by the Phom community every year during the Phom Day on June 6, stated an update.

Asserting that the Phom community is a peace loving community, the minister stated that divisive politics have led to hatred and disunity amongst the people. He advised the gathering to refrain from such politics and move forward together for a prosperous future.

Pangnyu said Sakshi block was selected as an aspirant block of the district, keeping in mind the backwardness of the block, to push forward the block together with other blocks of the district. The minister also enumerated various development activities initiated by the government during his tenure as minister in-charge of Health and Family Welfare.

He informed that strong and capable political leadership is required to bring change and development. Informing that recognition of a new village was a joint effort of all concerned, Pangnyu thanked the department and the district administration for their cooperation and support.

Exhorting that the responsibility to mould and shape the future of the villages depends upon the villagers, he urged the deputy commissioner not to delay the proposals submitted by these villages to avail the facilities in time.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Longleng, Dharam Raj, assured that the district administration was ready to provide all possible facilities and requirements to the new villages.

While inaugurating medical sub-centres at Yongphang, Hukphang and Mongtikang, Pangnyu stated that the status of the Medical department was at its lowest ebb with many non-functional sub-centres in the state when he took over charge as the minister of the department.

He asserted that COVID-19 pandemic was a blessing in disguise to improve the healthcare facilities and infrastructure development of hospitals in the state.

The minister informed that for the benefit of the ENPO areas, a medical college has been established in Mon and all Nagaland Ayush College in Longleng.

At Yongphang, Pangnyu stated that with the ongoing road construction under NEC rehabilitation scheme from Longleng to Tuensang, Yongphang village has become the epicentre for development due to its connectivity with Mon and Tuensang district besides Longleng.

Yongphang sub-centre was proposed to provide medical facilities not only to Longleng but also to the people of Mon and Tuensang district, he added.

Chairmen of respective village councils, head GBs, district administration, NGOs, CMO and representatives from Health department also spoke on the occasion.
