Dimapur, March 9 (EMN): Along with the rest of the country, Phek observed the Swachh Shakti Week from March 1 to 8.
The launching programme was conducted at PHED Divisional Office, with women employees, to emphasize on active involvement of women in the Swachh Shakti Week.
Painting competition under the theme ‘‘Vision/dream of a clean village,’’ was conducted at Baptist Mission High School (BMHS), Old Town Phek, on March 3. Awareness campaign on menstrual cycle was also briefed to girl students to ensure that adolescent girls have the necessary facilities with regards to personal hygiene, proper toilet, proper guidance etc.
Department of PHED, Phek also visited several households to witness women carrying out their daily chores of cleaning household articles, toilet, surrounding and appreciated womenfolks for making Swachh Bharat dreams true by keeping the household clean and village as a whole. The team encouraged them to motivate the younger generation living a life of clean and hygiene lifestyle.A week-long Swachh Shakti Saptah in Phek district culminated with the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, at Phek village under the theme “Be bold for change”, attended by more than 150 women.
A short speech on awareness campaign was highlighted by Er. T. Imtiakum, EE PHED, Phek. He also emphasized on maintaining good sanitary practices, safe handling of water and disposal of waste. A brief highlight on menstrual cycle and hygiene management was given by Kutulu Vero, IEC Consultant, PHED, Phek.
Khruvelu Chizo, resource person, highlighted on the importance of women’s role in the society and how to overcome the problems faced in the past. She also challenged the women gathering to endure the theme of the workshop and to begin their living condition with enthusiastic vision within the family and society.
