Nagaland paediatric dentists conducted an oral health outreach programme for special needs children at Angel Home in Dimapur.

DIMAPUR — In an effort to promote oral health awareness and preventive dental care among children with special needs, Nagaland paediatric dentists, along with their dental team, conducted an oral health outreach programme at Angel Home, Dimapur, on June 25.
According to an update, a total of 45 children from Angel Home, which supports children with intellectual disabilities, and Prodigals’ Home, which cares for visually impaired and rescued children, participated in the initiative.
The programme focused on educating children and caregivers on the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene.
Interactive demonstrations on proper tooth-brushing techniques were conducted, while individual guidance was provided to help each child adopt effective brushing methods suited to their needs and abilities.
Comprehensive oral health examinations were also carried out for all the children.
Preventive dental treatments, including Acidulated Phosphate Fluoride (APF) gel application and Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) treatment, were administered where necessary to strengthen teeth and prevent the progression of dental decay.

To encourage the continuation of healthy oral hygiene practices, visual brushing instruction posters were distributed to the homes for daily reference and learning.
The children were also presented with small gifts, adding to the joy and excitement of the programme, it stated.
The outreach aimed not only to provide essential dental care but also to equip children and caregivers with the knowledge and tools needed to maintain healthy smiles.
The paediatric dental team expressed gratitude to the management, caregivers and children of Angel Home and Prodigals’ Home for their warm welcome and enthusiastic participation.
The team stated that the initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to community service, preventive dentistry and improving oral health awareness among underserved populations and children with special needs.
